Find SideQuests ("we," "us," or "our") operates the SideQuest mobile application ("App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use SideQuest. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Location Data (Precise)

We collect your precise GPS location when:

You browse nearby quests
You complete location-based check-in objectives
You complete timed objectives that track movement

Location data is only collected while the App is actively in use (foreground). We do not collect location data in the background.

Photos

When a quest objective requires photo capture, we collect and store images taken through the App. We do not access your photo library unless you explicitly grant permission.

Device and Usage Data

We may collect:

Device type, OS version, and app version
App usage patterns (screens visited, features used)
Crash reports and performance diagnostics
IP address

Quest Activity

Quests started and completed
Points and skill progress
Objective completion timestamps and verification data (scanned QR codes, counter logs, timer results)

2.3 Information from Third-Party Sign-In

If you sign in via Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, we receive:

Your name (if shared by Apple)
Your email address
A unique identifier from the provider

We do not receive your Apple or Google passwords.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide the App: Create and manage your account, enable quest discovery, verify objective completions, and award points and prizes
Personalize Experience: Recommend quests based on your location, skill preferences, and history
AI Quest Creation: When you use the AI quest chatbot, your inputs are processed via OpenAI's API to generate quest content
Safety & Security: Detect fraud, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service
Communication: Send account-related emails (e.g., password reset, account confirmation). We will not send marketing emails without your consent
Analytics & Improvement: Analyze usage to improve app features and performance
Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information.

Certain information is publicly visible on SideQuest:

Skill points and rankings on leaderboards

Your email address, full name, and precise location are never shared publicly.

4.3 Merchants

When you redeem a merchant verification code, the merchant may see your username to confirm the redemption.

4.4 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or prevent harm.

4.5 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

5. Location Data

We treat location data with care:

Precise location is only collected while the App is actively in use (foreground)
We do not sell or broker your location data
Historical location data associated with quest completions is stored to maintain your quest history
You may revoke location permissions in your device settings at any time (this will disable location-dependent features)

6. Photos and Camera

Photos captured during quest objectives are stored securely on our servers (via Supabase Storage)
Photos are associated with your account and the specific quest completion record
We do not use your photos for advertising or share them with third parties
You may request deletion of your photos by contacting us at help@findsidequests.com

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Specifically:

Account data: Retained until you delete your account
Quest completion records: Retained for the life of your account to maintain your history and points
Location data (session-level): Not stored beyond what is required for objective verification
Photos: Retained until you delete them or your account is deleted

When you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
Secure credential storage via Supabase's authentication system and iOS Keychain
Row-level security policies on our database
Access controls limiting employee access to personal data

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to protecting your data.

9. Children's Privacy

SideQuest is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at help@findsidequests.com and we will delete it.

10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data
Data Portability: Request your data in a portable format
Opt-Out of Marketing: Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time
Withdraw Consent: Revoke permissions (camera, location) via your device settings

California Residents (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what data is collected, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. EEA/UK Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, our legal basis for processing your data is: (a) performance of our contract with you (account and app functionality), (b) your consent (location, camera), and (c) our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, analytics). You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

11. Third-Party Links

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties and encourage you to review their privacy policies.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the App or sending you an email. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance.
